Much More than Ice Cream

Blessings All, This weekend begins and ends with food – (not bad). This evening the free community dinner will be held here at the church – hosted this week by St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. This Sunday the main course (worship service) will include a the Baptism of Colin James Knowles the son of Joanne (Maurer) and George Knowles and the grandson of Alice and Greg Maurer. We will also celebrate Communion this week as I will be away the following 3 Sundays including the first Sunday of August. The scripture focus will be Matthew 13:31-33 with a short message entitled: “Small Stuff.” Our time together on Sunday finishes with a special coffee hour outside with Ice Cream Sundays and cake – pro

A Bit of Fun

Blessings All, Another summer weekend in Vermont. This evening Table of Grace (free community dinner) will be held here – as it is every 4th Friday of the month. Tomorrow our church will have a team of people assisting in the building of the latest Habitat house in Addison County. Marcia Mazeine is the contact person for that event. On Sunday we will focus our attention on one major teaching method Jesus used – The Parable. We will read a parable from Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43 but we will build our own parable during worship. Maybe we will build a few of them – we will see. Jesus often taught – using commonly known situations or settings –= and then from the mundane moved into the sacred.

The Scattered Word

Blessings to you all, This afternoon and evening a team of dedicated servants from our church will be providing the Community Supper at the Middlebury Congregational Church. Teams will be setting up – preparing – serving and cleaning up the supper today. At 5:00 today, Bill and Marcia Mazeine’s son, Peter will marry Kelly Wheatley. Tomorrow – Saturday – Betty and I will be exiting our house as we store most of our belongings in a storage unit in New Haven. Sunday morning will be my first official commute from Williston. Sundays service will focus on Matthew 13: 1-9, 18-23 with a sermon entitled: “The Scattered Word.” Couldn’t God be a bit more efficient? We will also read from Genesis 25

Sunday Worship

Blessings to you all, I hope everyone is having an opportunity to enjoy the gift of the season. Slowing down a bit is not bad – re-creating away from the routines – is not bad – sharing in worship on Sunday – is NOT BAD. The first text for this Sunday will be from Genesis portions of chapter 24 – the story of Abraham seeking a wife for his son Isaac. This is an interesting story and I think I may just tell it as a paraphrased version. I may refer to it during the sermon – but the main focus for the sermon comes from Matthew 11:16-19 and 25-30. The sermon is entitled: “The Inviting Yoke.” There will be two sign-up sheets for Mission outreach – One for the Habitat work day on Saturday Jul

Blessings Faith Family, This Sunday is Communion Sunday and the focus on the message will be from Matthew 10:40-42 with maybe a bit of help from Psalm 13. The message is entitled: “Compounding Welcome.” The children – with a bit of help – will be providing goodies for coffee hour. Just a bit of an update from last week’s service at Button Bay State Park: It was a resounding success with 72 people of various ages and stages gathering for worship and sharing in the fun of the place. The pool was open and food was eaten and faces were painted and food was eaten and crafts were made and food was eaten. The Deacons’ provided the funds for access to the park for anyone wishing it (31 people –
