Los Posadas

Blessings and Prayers of Warmth to you All,

This Sunday will be a special Sunday – Abigail is inviting all children to go to the Fellowship Hall before the church service begins to get ready for the Las Posadas experience and the Christmas Pageant.

Las Posadas is a Mexican tradition of re-enacting the trek of Mary and Joseph seeking refuge for the birth of Jesus. This is an outdoor experience and the entire congregation will be invited to make a bit of journey into the neighborhood outside of the church (could be a bit rainy). Everyone including the children will return to the church and the traditional Christmas Pageant will begin. Sunday will be a bit wet – and I know not everyone should be making the trek outside – so Jenny will be leading us in a carol sing while we await the return of those venturing out.

I expect that the regular worship service will be on the brief side. If we get to the scripture for the day it is: Matthew 1:18-25. Last week we focused on Mary – this week the scriptures really focus on Joseph (who does not get a whole lot of ink – but played a crucial role in the drama of Jesus’ birth). If you have a chance – take a few minutes and read that passage. If you were going to deliver a message from that text what might it be?

If you have extra slightly used or maybe even new – gloves, hats, mittens, scarves, coats or boots for any age – please bring them on Sunday. At the very end of the pageant – the culmination of the pageant – everyone will be invited to bring forward the warm weather gear to be given to the Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program welcoming incoming refugees with a bit of warmth and a whole lot more.

After worship some of us will be trekking to Mel and Jean Simmons’ home to transport the marionette scenes to the church in preparation for the 4:00 pm Family Christmas Eve Service on the 24th.

Following the pageant - everyone is invited into the Fellowship Hall to enjoy some Mexican Christmas Treats and there will be a special event for the children which traditionally is the end of Las Posadas.

If you know of families who might wish to participate – there is always room for more actors in Jesus’ story.

Have a safe weekend and I look forward to our time together on Sunday.

Peace Hope Joy and Love
