Hello from Pastor Barbara!

Dear Friends,

How does the time go? It seems we were just navigating the snowy roads and weather reports and now it is June. We have been faithful in worship and mission, the committees have been keeping up with business and making time to vision, to wonder what God’s call is to us in this time of transition. The search committee has been meeting twice a month and I want to recognize the hard work of these busy people as they look at the myriad aspects of creating a profile of the church. You have been generous with your responses to the questions we ask about your experiences and your hopes.

Faith Formation is also working to do similar visioning as we seek to discern how God is inviting us to grow with our children and youth. We’ll be advertising for a Coordinator of Children and Family Ministries.

Summer brings our June 23 Button Bay worship service, and in August, Vergennes Day. These are opportunities to be church outside the walls, and I invite you to dream about what kind of presence we might offer to the community on a regular basis. What kind of hope do we offer to others because we are who we are – children of God, who seek to bring light and love to all places?

And finally, as summer brings a change of schedule and weather (thank heavens!), I invite you to pause, to remember that wherever we are, God waits to spend time with us. Worship offers space to reflect, to connect with the Holy, and to go into the week with perspective and purpose. It’s an intentional break in whatever our daily life is like.

And, as Joan Chittister writes in THE GIFT OF YEARS:

Mystery is what happens to us when we allow life to evolve rather than having to make it happen all the time...There is something holy -making about simply presuming that what happens to us in any given day is sent to awaken our souls to something new: another smell, a different taste, a moment when we allow ourselves to lock eyes with a stranger, to smile a bit, to nod our heads in greeting.

Summer Blessings,
