A change of Pastors

We are glad to share the news that Rev. Elliott J. Munn has been called as pastor to the Vergennes Congregational Church. He begins his ministry on May 18. Elliott is an ordained minister with the United Church of Christ. He grew up in rural Maine, graduated from Bowdoin College with a major in Classics and from Yale Divinity School with a Master of Divinity degree. His experience includes serving as Pastoral Associate for Youth and Families at Orange Congregational Church in Orange, Connecticut and more recently as Associate Pastor of First Church, West Hartford, Connecticut. He recently served as Transitional Pastor at the Waitsfield Congregational Church, Waitsfield, Vermont.

I bid you farewell after sixteen months as your interim. Interims are often referred to as “temporary shepherds.” The role of a temporary shepherd - the goal of this time - is to work ourselves out of a job. We share the life of the congregation: the joys and sorrows and the liturgical seasons and the special events. We work with the search committee in creating a profile that tells pastoral candidates who the church is, and who you seek to journey with you into the future. I am grateful for the time we have spent together and for knowing a wonderful committed congregation.

We continue to face the challenge of this pandemic, and do not know when the church will be able to gather in person. But this is a faithful and hopeful congregation and church life will continue with new leadership and new ideas with the resources available to us. And we continue to pray for the time that the Coronavirus is contained, and life will find a new balance and peace.

I offer thanks and blessings to this community.

In gratitude,
